Mayor Rhodes-Conway Introduces $1 Million Plan to Fund Shelter Operations

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has proposed $1 million in new funding for services at the Bartillon Shelter as part of her 2026 Executive Operating Budget. Combined with existing allocations from the Community Development Division, this would bring the City of Madison’s total contribution to shelter operations to $1.7 million—a historic first, as municipalities like Madison have traditionally not funded shelter services directly.
